Looking for 1988 Parts

Post by LBC970 »

Hey guys,

I am looking for the rubber intake boot that goes from the air cleaner to the carb, as well as the rubber boot from the carb to the reed cage. The local Kawasaki dealer cant order them, and I am having a hell of a time finding them online. Partzilla shows the part, and part number (14073/8), but doesn't show the rubber boot from the carb to the reeds. Do you guys know of a good place to look for these kind of things?

Thanks!

Are you completely missing the boots?

Because, if you are not, members here have had good luck with repairing cracked intake boots with Plasti-dip.

I did check that 'American' ebay site, and yes, there are a few on there for about $80 a piece, they also seem to be cast when you order, leading me to believe they aren't factory spec. It's a last resort for me.

I have considered just repairing the ones I have, and I may still go that direction, but they have been repaired multiple times already and are looking a little ragged. I was hoping for a replacement.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I will keep looking into it!

Good luck on finding them new, as they have not been made for years. Any you find will be old stock (New Old Stock - NOS).

The seller on eBay making one may be your only hope.

Start here https://www.dcvmx.com/xcart/product.php ... 011&page=1. Don''t know if they ship outside the US, but they make lots of stuff for KDXs

1986 - 1987 boots are not the same as 1988

http://www.ebay.com/sch/m.html?_odkw=&_ ... 0&_sacat=0

1986 - 1987 are Mikuni carb and 1988 is a Keihin.

Hi Jason,
As I recall, the boot will work for both carbs...maybe someone can confirm. It is very flexible and the diameter difference isn't that much so that is can't conform. I've used the same boot for both carb types (mikuni vs keihin) on other bikes w/o a problem on the intake side.

I am not sure on the dimensions. I remember one was close.

If he buys the new ones, he might as well get the correct ones. No need to buy new 1986-7 ones.

I actually repaired the boots myself, turned out nice.

I am running into a short term memory problem now, I have hoses I don't know where they belong. Fuel line is obvious, crankcase to the airbox I got, but there is one hanging from the carb bowl and I cant remember where the heck it goes. Also, I thought there was one hanging off the side of the carb, and now it's missing, unless it never existed.

It's been a crazy winter, I haven't touched the bike since January.

From what I see there, I have two vents, left and right, going down below the chassis, then the tube from the bottom of the bowl going into the air box?

Thats a different carb then what I have, but I imagine it's similar.

All carb drains terminate below the chassis. The one going to the air box is the transmission vent.
