Hey everyone so I'm in a jam, I was in the process of removing my cylinder and was just going to remove the nut for the exhaust valve operating shaft I was unaware it has left handed threads and I broke the rod and do not know what to do... Where can I find a new one if I can find a new one and how much??? Any help would be greatly appreciated I am in the process of taking everything apart to do a full rebuild and already have a bunch of parts on the way hoping this won't screw me.

It is still available new from Kawasaki.
Part number 13234-1101. It is $81.41 from RMATV.
You might check ebay for a used one.

He has an E so the H part won't really help him out.

Well, first thing you should have coming is a service manual, would have saved you from the LHT trap (or at the very least done a search here and it would have been very obvious). As for the rod (item # 49114A below), did it break at the threaded end or did it break at the governor end? If it broke at the threads then you're stuck hunting Ebay for the part or a motor for parts. If the governor pin (item #13236 below) you can still get them.

Damnnn. I know it was a pretty stupid mistake on my part I have a lot of money tied up on this bike right now an this is not what I needed to happen.it is broken at the threaded end. I checked bikebandit.com and partzilla and they're nla I checked babbits and they have it listed but they still list the kips valves so I don't want to waste my time ordering one just to have my order cancelled, I also checked ebay but didn't find anything... can anyone out there help me with suggestions
?

What about taking it to a machine shop and seeing what they can do? Probably won't be a cheap fix.

Just a quick question.....IS there a difference between the E and H governor rod?
Also, since my B.I.L. has "broken" his KDX, should I part he thing out "for him" or wait until I need the parts (keep them for myself)?

:drinkers:

Does anybody know if this part is interchangeable with the H governor rod? I don't really have the funds to bring it to a machine shop right now just dropped a lot of money on parts for this bike so I'm kinda broke right now. Hoping I can find a used one but things aren't looking up at the moment.

put up a pic. If the rod is just broken below the threads you may be able to have it welded back together...don't know how long I would trust it that way but even if the weld let go while you were riding it's not going to do much other than make the bike run flat. Keep an eye out on Ebay for a toasted motor is about your best bet for finding one unless someone on here has one laying around

Luckily I found one and I just bought it, a right side cover/clutch cover/water pump housing with a clutch lever and perch that had the shaft still attached and appears to be in pretty good condition from a 1990 just went up on ebay today so I'm now another $94 in the hole but I guess that's the price I pay for being careless... I'm just happy I was able to find it after searching nonstop all night and morning. I'm hoping the rest of this rebuild goes smoothly lol going to be extra careful and read the service manual for every step from now on because I cant afford not to, as of right now without having bought a piston and ring or had the cylinder checked I'm already $912 in the hole not counting the $575 I paid for the bike. Kind of feeling like I should've just changed the clutch and water pump seal/oil seal (all the bike really needed aside from the shot kips valves I discovered when I got the head off) and called it a day. At least the engine will be fresh and not need maintenance for a while right.

I woulda suggested the classifieds section of the forums first. There was a member not too long ago parting out his '89 and probably has one for a good deal
