Trail Tech kickstand on an E-series

My '89 has been in need of a kickstand and I never really liked the design of the stocker. I read Rick Albert's thread here where he had good luck putting a Trail Tech #5400-00 kickstand on his H-series and I liked the way that stand was designed. I could tell that the frames were different enough that it wouldn't bolt onto an E in quite the same way but I ordered one to give it a shot. I figured that if it wouldn't work I'd return it and order different part#s until I found one that would work.
I'm not done with the installation yet but it would appear that this stand works even better on an E than an H. I had to source some hardware from McMaster that I couldn't find locally but the installation was pretty straightforward. I ordered the aluminum spacer and the 10mm button-head bolt. I ordered a few extras in case anyone on here was interested in doing this mod to their bike.
The obvious downside is that it looks like it will snag on logs and things pretty easily, though I don't think it's really as bad as it looks in the picture. The bottom of the stand is pretty close to even with the bottom of the frame and rear suspension linkage. If it turns out to be a big problem I'll probably built a sort of skid plate extension for it.
I'll post more info and pictures as I make progress.

Installation on an H series......the problem is the connection at the lower chain roller. It's a weak point and will bend. Not a question of "if" but "when". Looks like you have gotten around this. Nice work and good luck.

Alright. I've done a bit of riding with this kickstand installed and I have some impressions. So far I'm very happy with it, though I haven't REALLY put it through it's paces yet.
The first thing, and I noticed this before I even rode the bike, was that the stand needed to be shortened. The bike stood up on its own in the shop, but just barely. It was almost straight up and down. I expected this after reading the reports of guys putting this stand on their H-series. Once out on the trail and with a few pounds of mud on the bike and the suspension squatting lower the bike wouldn't stand up at all.
When I got home I set about shortening it. The plastic foot was difficult to remove but I eventually got it. The hollow portion of the stand is about 50mm deep and the plastic foot extends about 30mm up into it. I thought that I needed to remove a bit more than that so I cut 30mm off the stand (using a tubing cutter so that the cut would be nice and square), and cut 10mm off the shaft of the plastic foot. This puts the bike at a more realistic angle in the shop. I haven't been back out on the trails yet to see how it performs in the real world, but I think it's in the ballpark. If it needs shortened more I'll have to drill the hole deeper into the stand and cut off some more length.
As far as the concern about the mounting bracket snagging goes, I slid across a few large logs on my skid plate and didn't notice the bracket snagging. However, I'm in the process of relearning how to ride offroad after a 15-20 year hiatus so my log crossings were a sort of barely controlled chaos and 100% of my attention was going to not crashing. Thus, I couldn't pay much attention to the subtleties of the undercarriage of the bike's harmony with the log. Seems alright, though.
As for the specifics of the mounting, here's what I used: (I ordered most of this stuff from McMaster-Carr)
-Aluminum spacer (unthreaded). 3/4 OD x 3/8 ID x 1/2 length. I had to file out the ID slightly to fit the 10mm mounting bolt.
-Button head Allen bolt. 10mm D x 45mm L. . I had to grind down the OD of the button head slightly to fit into the recess of the Trail Tech mounting bracket. I also cut down the length of the bolt a bit. 40mm would probably be the correct length.
-As for the 8mm bolt for the lower mount and chain roller, I don't remember the exact length. Sorry, I misplaced my notes.
-On the lower mount bolt I stacked two or three 8mm washers between the lower mount and frame to make up the space there.

I think this is probably the best kickstand solution for the E-series KDX200. It's not particularly cheap and it takes a bit of work to install, but the results are great.
If you're going to do this mod, I still have some extra spacers and 10mm button head bolts. Shoot me a PM or respond here and I can hook you up with a set for a lot cheaper than you can order them from McMaster.

Funny, Monday after riding I'm taking my bike to Trailtech to rummage through the bin of random kickstand mounts.

Does your kickstand fold up under the side marker plate after mods?

No, it doesn't fold up that high. Here's where it ends up:
I didn't notice it causing any problems while I was riding, though. Seems to be nicely out of the way.

Did you ever do this? What ever came of it?

Bringing this one back from the dead. I did go and get parts from trail tech. Same parts as Baron. I cut mine up to mount it higher up and get rid of that underhang. I also really want mine to fold up under rear plastic. I never fit the thing because I live in NW, trees are everywhere. I'm gonna bolt it up in the next couple 3 weeks when my bike goes down for maint. I'll throw some pics up.

I've already got a trail tech kickstand, but I'm lacking the mounting bracket. Can you tell me what part number that would be? I'm really looking forward to doing this mod.

Thanks!

I'm not sure what the part number for just the bracket would be. You'd probably have to call TrailTech for that one. The number for the whole assembly is 5400-00. Hopefully they can go from there.
I have a lot of hours on this setup and Ike very happy with it. I don't have a single complaint. Good mod.
Let me know if you need the spacer and bolt parts like I used. I'm almost certain that I still have some of them and I'll sell you a set for cheap.

The 1991 frame looks a bit different. I'm trying to adapt this TrailTech kickstand for my e series:

The hole for the lower roller doesn't quite line up either. I will likely need to modify the bracket to make it work. Perhaps moving it up higher as well.

I cut mine by about 15mm:

The bracket is made of steel, so I grafted in some 1/4" plate and drilled a new hole, which I had to slot to get enough adjustability to fit. I also redrilled the top hole lower and cut off the old section with the old hole:

It fits fairly well. I may cut off another 5mm to get a bit more lean and less interference with the side panel:

I also had to shave down the swing arm bracket to clear the kick stand.
