Whats the differences between KX and KDX wheels? Is it axle diameter?

My bad. I thought you were talking about a front wheel. Nevermind.
EDIT explanation: I thought he was talking about modifying his front KX wheel, and I put some front wheel related information. Later, I thought he was talking about a rear wheel, so I just deleted it all out because it did not apply.

Ah! Ha!
Thanks for the info. It's so tempting to bid on a set of Excel rims for KX's. At a glance, they look like they would fit.

I don't get it...some editing has been done to the end of making no sense.
Front or back?
And what do rims have to do with it? Hubs not be the same as rims. Nothing wrong with 'KX' rims on a KDX..as long as you are talking about the front..
well..and on and on.
So..is there a point here? What is it?

I thought he was just asking about changing his fron KX wheel's rim and spokes to an Excel brand rim and spokes. I didn't understand that he was talking about a rear wheel. All my information was front wheel related, so I just edited it all out.
To be honest, I don't know if he is talking about a part or a whole wheel or what. Would you care to clarify, jafo?
Thanks.

All you need to know is what rim width you want and what diameter rim you want.
Likely you will have to purchase new spokes, as the oem KDX nipples likely will be too small..and besides you won't likely get them off your oem spokes anyway.
You need spokes that fit the hubs you have..so those will be 'for' a KDX..but otherwise it's a matter of 18", 19", 20" or 21". Choose what you want.
Well, I'm assuming you don't have Talon hubs or somesuch.
Example: Buy an 18" and 21" Excel rim..what...probably 2.50 or so? Get rimlocks for them. Buy a set of spokes/nips for them, with ends that will fit a KDX..and there 'ya go!
**note**
Obviously, if you have USD forks, you prolly have a KX front wheel...so get spokes to match.

jafo, are you wanting an Excel brand rim or an Excel brand wheel? Front or rear? Any other details you can give us?
canyncarvr, on the front wheel, some KX front wheel owners can just keep the OEM spokes and nipples. (check for particular model fit, as in, no it won't work on a 1974 model)

Well, yeah..that goes with the USD part.
Still, don't count on getting them apart. Yeah...I took all my spokes/nips apart and put them back together with never-seize...but who does
that?

I'm basically talking about the whole burrito. The hub the spokes and the rims. The whole wheel assembly. Say for the sake of argument, you find a set of Excel wheels on Ebay, again the hubs, spokes and rims, front and back. Would they fit a KDX? I know the front one would work because I've changed my forks, but I'm concentrating on the rear wheel assembly, would the KX and KDX interchange?
Hope this kinda clears the haze.

"Can I replace my KDX OEM wheel with an Excel brand wheel for a KX?"
Say it 3 times.
As far as an answer, I do not know. At some point, I think they went go from a 20mm rear axle to a 25mm axle. Feel free to download the "wheels" section of a White Brothers catalog and look to see what years surely won't work. Perhaps you can at least cross off a few years.

In any case you would be likely looking at a 19" rim vs: an 18".
As much grief as my 18" rim takes..I sure wouldn't want a 19.

CC, that's one of the things that came to mind the other day thinking about all this. I remember reading in a magazine sometime ago about changing the front wheel diameter size for better control and steering stability. I just could'nt remember which way it went. Have you or anyone heard about changing front wheel sizes? I think it was going to a smaller rim, like a 19" or 20" rim cant remember.

I hear that Kawasaki offers a 20" rim for the kx250F. Seems like finding a tire for that would keep you pretty busy though.
