Do I need to rebuild now or can I get another season?

I"d say rebuild now. It's cheap, doesn't take much time, and the consequences of losing the motor isn't worth the $120 in parts and your time to rebuild it now.

I agree. $120 now or over $700 for piston and replate later. Thats how I look at it anyways.

That is about double what it should cost!

If the stock 220 piston is still in there than you should get it out of there.

On a 2000 you might be looking at replating anyway.

Sure should be about $250 tops for replate ,but if you explode a piston and cylinder needs to be welded ,bored , plated and ports cleaned up it can get up there quick. At that point better to find a used cylinder or fix it before this happens.

I have bored many engines and some of these 2 strokes are not fun and require extensive set-up to be done right.

Was the engine cold or warm when you did the compression test? Keep in mind that the 220 is a lower compression bike vs. the 200. The useable compression for the 220 is 90-150. 120 is right in the middle.

my 1997 220 was at 150psi with the stock piston and over 7000 miles. At least look up the exhaust port and see if the rings show a lot of blow by.

My '03 220 with unknown miles and stock piston was 147 psi.
Replaced piston with Wiseco and about 20-30 miles of ring seating and its at 135 psi.
