How many y'all have seen moly rings for the KDX?

I just got a set (Riken) that IS moly-coated. I've only seen shiny rings. Don't know what the metal is..but it's not the gray color that molybdenum is.

Just curious.........

Thanks!

CC,

If they are what I am thinking, they are a iron ring that has a break in coating impregnated into them. Much like the "parker-lube" that a lot of camshafts are treated with.

A lot of 4 stroke one piece oil rings and scraper rings are made this way too.

Thanks for that. That is what it looks like, now that you mention it.

Ha! I remember some guys trying to scrub off such cam coatings..thinking it was some sort of protective layer that had to be removed before install!

No..I wasn't one of 'em.

Does that make these rings odd? Different? Better or worse than...well, whatever make-up it is of the more common (common because that's all I've seen) shiny rings?

Thanks!

CC,

They will break in sooner and give a better seal right off the batt. They will wear a little faster (not a lot), but it will be easer on the bore (which will make the bore last longer).

It does not make this type of ring odd as this method has been used a lot for many many years (40 plus as I can remember)

"Riken" has been around since the late 60's and make a lot of OEM rings.

They are a little softer and again will wear a little quicker that their Kawasaki counter parts....., but very good rings.
