Hello, kawasaki said 36HP for the E serie...
it's that true?
these 36 HP are mesured at the rear wheel or at the crankshaft?
Someone have verified this power with a dyno ?
Thank you
i'm French and I don't speak English very well, so, please, excuse me :)
Considering hp boasting from kawi for my brute and dyno test for that .....what they state is at the crank not rear wheel hp. So I would think your correct it might be lower then what they state.
When I go to get the brutes clutches modded I am having it dyno'd there and was going to see if I could throw the kdx to get some readings if it wasn't too much.
Im sure someone has ran into it and will chime in.
If you cant fix it with a hammer, you have an electrical problem.
I had my 220 ported , matched & flowed with the head machined & piston modified to suit last year.....i am running a full FMF system & a 36mm can off a 1990 kx 125 .
Before the work was carried out my bike was running very well & placed on the dyno.... Print out said 24 Bhp..
After all the work was done the bike was placed back on the dyno & fully set up.... Final Bhp test was just shy of 40bhp with a larger increase of torque..
I don't believe the 37hp figure Kawasaki quoted is correct.

Are these at the wheel values or corrected for approximate shaft output?
2003 KDX 220. RB Carb & Head Mods. Desert pipe. She's a runner!
2006 KLX 250 w/351 big bore. A well-sorted dual sporter.
2006 KLR 650. Mostly stock.
2014 Suzuki DL1000.
thank you for the answers!
I will completely rebuild my bike: frame and all the engine and I'll mount "racing" parts (FMF pipe, RB carb and head, Vforce3) and wish to know the real gain of all these improvements!
Well I can not trust Kawasaki, so I'll build my engine stock, do the "rodage" (don't know the English word for the period you have to ride gently with an engine redone), dyno, mount the improvments on the engine, dyno again...
Cornishwrecker: what clutch do you use curently?
i'm French and I don't speak English very well, so, please, excuse me :)
I'm running EBC HD clutch plates & spring kit... Over here in the UK EBC make quality brake & clutch kits ..we don't get all the aftermarket stuff for kdx 's you guys get unless we use EBAY..
Cornishwrecker220 : Thank you i have to change all my clutch.. Are you sill happy with you mitaka clutch basket? In france , for aftermarket parts, the probleme is the same...Do you know serie E wasn't distributed by kawasaki network ( H 200 was distributed by Kawasaki, we havn't A 220 :-( ) , E serie was distributed by a little society so not a lot of bike and nothing in aftermarket... almost all my parts comes by ebay or this forum...
Pumpguy: I planned to do of course, I love this forum and make my contribution will be a pleasure, but in several months I have not yet bought all other parts ... the ideas come faster than money

If I had to guess, I would put my KDX around that HP, but only after mods. Open airbox, RB carb and head, DG pipe. Even so, it would be a total guess. I wonder if my daughters auto shop teacher would let me throw it on the dyno up at the highschool? lol!
I can see a kdx engine making 37hp, at the crank. 28Hp at the wheel, as mentioned before, is probably correct. It depends on how you measure it at the wheel. I can tell you from experience that any 2 stroke that makes you respect it will be hopping all over on an inertia dyno, even on street tires. I only partially trusted any of the numbers I saw.
I'd be surprised to see a stock port timed kdx to make much more with mods. In my experience with the kdx, it makes a bit more HP , but all the bolt ons just increase throttle response and broaden the power band. That is NOT a bad thing by any means to me.
Frenche200.... Nothing wrong with the Mitaka parts ( I fitted the con rod kit & clutch kit) but as my kdx now pushes out more torque & hp , & it started slipping shortly after I figured it best to replace the whole lot with the EBC heavy duty kit for better reliability .
I'll take a look at what my dyno print out said before & after the rebuild & post it up.
I agree I was somewhat surprised that my 220 only managed 25.1 with mods & before the tune.
I just find it hard to believe that the quoted 37 Bhp from Kawasaki are true...now I'm not saying that my tuner may have altered my dyno graph readings for the better but my 220 noticeably pulls much stronger & smoother than it before.....which makes me believe that the now measured Bhp figure & torque figure are a little more accurate ...
It would be interesting to hear/read if any other members have had their 220 or 200 dyno'd & what the readings were?
