New C model air filter intake boots

Post by kawagumby »

Hi all,
I came across a new air intake boot that Hot Foot Moto was selling for the old air-cooled 125's. It looked just like the c model, and figuring Kawasaki would keep tooling to a minimum for this kind of thing, I gambled and ordered one for my 87 KDX200. As it turns out, the new boot is an exact fit, with one exception, and that is the mating flange where it attaches to the air box is about 3/16" thick vs the original at about 1/16" thick. So, you need to get slightly longer screws.

About $70. I had repaired the original boot but was concerned the crack problem would just re-appear -

what i found out with buying new boots(bought a kx125 and then a kdx200PWK boot, this came from my carburetor troubles) the KX boots inside diameter is much smaller compared to the 200 boot which allows less air to travel to the engine itself. compare the opening on the reed side of the boot

Reed side? No, I'm talking about the air intake boot from the air cleaner to the carb.
The HFM air cleaner boot has the same volume and extends all the way to the shock spring just like the original.

Regarding the carb intake boot (that's what you're talking about, right?) - There is a new aftermarket boot available for that too, I have one on my bike.

I changed the title of this thread to eliminate the confusion... :busted:
