coolant overflow hose routing

Hi all,

So for the coolant overflow / reservoir there are two black hoses. Where does the top one connect and where does the bottom one connect.

-One connects to the top of the right side radiator (there is a nipple there). Does this connect to the bottom of the overflow tank?

-The second hose (connected to the top of the overflow tank) ; is this left open to atmosphere or does it connect somewhere??

Also; any tips on filling the coolant? I have the cyclepedia manual but I want to make sure everything is correct. Just rebuilt the whole bike so I don't want to fry it.

Thanks

It would be helpful if we what bike it was. If it's a E I can help you.

The hose go on a nipple on the rad at the cap, this is only for when the bike heats up and the coolant expands and instead of blowing out the cap it goes through that nipple and goes through the hose and to the tank; which has no pressure at all

With the bike cold and drained of coolant, open the cap and put about a 1-11/2 quarts then start the bike and very slowly fill it up to just and above the fins ind

The overflow tank's top hose needs to overflow, so that one goes to atmosphere. The bottom hose connects to the radiator nipple. Connect the other way around and overflow is simply lost.

The overflow tank is simply just that a tank for over flow coolant and it is not a reservoir which means once the coolant goes in there in doesn't come back out. Mx bike don't have a overflow tank cuz there's no tree jiggers in mx to care where the overflow goes

bike = kdx220R

ok thanks for confirming.

top nipple = atmosphere

bottom nipple = connect to right rad (near cap)

Correct. And the top one usually has a hose running down to dump overflow onto the ground and not onto the bike. And if working properly, I believe this model is a reservoir and the radiator can suck coolant back in.
