Wheel bearing circlip broke

Trying to replace rear wheel bearings. The ends of the circlip broke off. The rest of the clip is still in there with nowhere to grab onto it.
What to do?

Damn the previous owner! [emoji35]

Use a small flat screwdriver to hold one end of the circlip from spinning, and a second one (or a small pick) to try and pry out the other end. The other option would be to put a cutting wheel on the dremel and cut it at the mid point, but I'd work the pick and screwdriver first.
Looks about time for a new rear sprocket soon as well.

You may need to get creative grinding and bending on a sacrificial screwdriver or two. Perhaps some dental pics.

Just don't beat on the bearings from the other side not realizing there's a circlip there, busting up the hub like we did to a KLR wheel once.

Doh :?

+1 on bufftester's recommendation. Since you don't need the bearing you could drill a hole in it and use the drill bit as a stop so all you have to do is work the clip at one end without holding it in place. I would avoid using a cutting wheel if possible. Agree a sprocket and new chain are in order [emoji51]

Thanks. New sprockets and chain were delivered earlier this week.
Hopefully this dang circlip will come out. I'm struggling with the bearing on the other side as well. Might need some heat on it.

Heat will help. Take your time as you don't want to score the inside. You will get it!

Bearings and the snap ring are out.

Do you really need that snap ring? Seems pointless since the bearing is pressed in.

Glad you got it out. I would not run without it. I won't pretend to fully understand the forces at play when riding; however, I suspect the engineers that called for the snap ring there do! Plus, the risk versus reward seems a bit askew. Of it works great! If not, then you will likely need to buy a new hub. I'd rather buy the snap ring.

Just for reference and follow up for anyone who ends up needing a new clip.

Went to Ace Hardware. Got a 1 5/8" internal snap ring. It fit, but it fits tight.
