first post to the forum, so hello!

and now the gritty. recently picked up a 94 KDX, lots of goodies, and honestly one of the funnest rides ive had, PO went through all the hassle of making it street legal and a great runner.

anyway. took it out to some local trails today, performed great, hit some soft ruts and went down lightly, andput about an inch long crack in the side of the tank. I can post a video right after it happened if yall want a laugh. ive done some research and found some decent how to videos for fusing it back together, just seeing who all here has tried it, how well its held up and any other info, I know the short answer is just replacing the tank, which is the end goal, I go on my yearly staycation in a couple days and had planned on riding the hell out of the new bike til this. any info would be greatly appreciated. will be posting in the want ads for a replacement shortly. thanks!

Isn't that the KDX ddavis posted for sale last month here? Did you find the bike through the board?

Anyways, nice bike. My tank has a small crack which the previous owner tried to have plastic welded. I just rubber cemented and JB welded it and It's held up well so far

I tried repairing my original tank using the "fusing" idea. It didn't work for me. YMMV.

I've tried fusing sveral tanks. I even have a proper plastic welder and the correct rod. Only one repair was succesful and that involved repairing a crack in a molded bracket on the tank, the crack did not go through to the fuel space.
It seems like something from the fuel gets into the plastic and prevents the weld from happening.

I suspect at some point you'll just have to repalce the tank

the fact that it was fuel holding made me pretty skeptical that itd work, I may try the cement and epoxy short term, they used this tank for 89-94 so finding one shouldnt be too difficult, mechanically the bike was awesome, sucks this happened right before staycation, should've waited haha.
