catch can modification? Anyone try this for crank ventline?

Ok so I noticed after riding up in pa my filter was pretty dang dirty. I thought well it was really dusty at the atv trail it musta just sucked a lot up with the riding. Well I go to take a look at my filter and its just dark and oily. Sure enough its got a nice coat of 10/30 on it. Now mind you I was doing some hill climbs and wheelie n it for some fun and of course bike was really never on quite level ground. So Im thinking that the crankcase vent which routes to the airbox is the culprit because my brute force does the same thing if I wheelie it a lot.

Now on the brute I installed a catch can from a kfx and it works great. Same thing with the brute it was puking oil into the airbox.

Pretty simple in design if you don't know what Im talking about. Its just a can that is designed to catch that oil and when the bike gets back to normal position it dumps the oil back into the crankcase. So no more ruined filters and you run less of a chance of running without oil. I mean really my filter despite the oil could of been used some more. I like to change em after a good long ride regardless.

Just a though I did a search and didn't show anything here and just wondered if someone else tackled this problem. Right now Im thinking of locating a can up behind the left radiator shroud. It can be done however Im just having a hard time finding a spot to locate it really.

Thanks in advance!

How much oil did you put in the crankcase?

I would say dead nuts with waiting on site glass. I used about a quart bout what is recommended but a little less due to some oil still in there. A little over 3/4 quart prox.

you can tell its oil tho smells different. Thing is I was hitting some major hills which I have never done like pa has. I got to the top of one and could ride a wheelie and just had fun doing the hills for a bit. Ill take a pic of filter. I mean really should of gotten a before. For what I was riding it really wasn't dusty too much. It rained a slight the night before and was kinda slick yet. Just weird never had the problem before till the hills. I wasn't over the limit if that's the case same as before with no probs. No real like excessive force blowing oil or running weird .....bike ran great still. Just sucks that filter was damn new too. I think I just bought it to be honest.

Route the hose to the "hoop" under the airbox instead of going inside it. That's how I have mine and it works great. If any extra oil pukes out, auto-oiling chain! :supz:

A buddy of mine put a whole quart in his 1997 KDX and it blew oil out the vent hose.

It's common to run a whole quart in the gearbox. I do it, and so do lots of other members here. I find it will piss out a couple ounces once it heats up, but after that it doesn't drip at all.

ok so I don't do a full quart I used to when first starting out etc but have it down to a good mark on the container and draining it good after warmup.

Well anyway I think Im gonna put it outside the airbox for now. Its probably just a combination of perhaps had too much in it and also hitting some huge hills.

There's a little "hoop" moulded into the airbox on the left side of the bike. That's where the hose is supposed to go IMHO. The hose and cable routing diagram is vague in this regard, all it says is "to airbox."

Is there not a hose sized hole it sticks into? I remember someone mentioning it a year or so ago on here, to me.
