Number Plate Backgrounds

I am looking for an alternative for the number plate background material they sell to make your own custom backgrounds, call me cheap but i dont want to spend $20/3 cuts when I will need black and green + white numbers. It might be hard to find a kawasaki green, but I think custom ones would look much nicer than any of the pre-cut ones I have seen, anyone know of any alternative sticker material or ideas?

Coloured Contact. If you have it over there. The stuff you cover school books in, to protect them. My mate made black backgrounds about 2yrs ago and they are only just starting to fall off now.

Good idea, i am going to try it. Somebody else reccomended to me drawing them in photoshop and having a sign making company printing the .jpg on vinyl sticker material. I will have to check into the price.
