Hello,

I am not sure how dirty my air filter is after about 10 hours of riding the past 2 months.

1. How do I locate and inspect the air filter?

2. Where can I purchase a new filter?

3. How often to inspect, clean, or replace filter?

Can i just follow this guy approach.

Thank you kindly.

A service manual would be a good starting point.

Yes, I am just now seeing in the service manual where it talks about how to remove and clean the air filter.

I do not see in the manual on when to clean or change the filter.

Very simple. Just remove the seat(2 screws at the back holding it on) then remove the black lid in the middle(with the air intake snorkle). The filter and filter cage is held in place by a wing nut you loosen by hand and remove.

Alot depends on the area you are riding , I usually change filters( clean) about every three rides . If i think water crossing may have wet the filter i check after the ride and go from there . A normal filter will live thru many cleanings , if you ever see a thin spot or a tear in the foam trash it . A couple of important things are to make sure you seal the filter lip ( black foam usually) to the air box where it meets this will keep the dirt from entering the motor, a lightweight grease can be used for this. Also make sure the washer is intact on the wingnut that retains the filter to the box.squease out all extra filter oil from the filter , do not wring it as it may rip the foam , then sponge it with a clean rag or towel to get as much oil back off the filter as possible . I suggest you get at least two if not three filters for your bike and rotate them , that way you will always have one ready for install and it gives you more time to prep the next one . Spray on filter oil such as Bel-ray is a good choice and easier to use then the type you dip in or pour it on the filter . I wash my filters in dawn dish washing liquid it gets the oil off and cleans them well , It usually takes two to three washings . hope this helps , Jerry .
