I put my kick start mechanism back in today after doing crank seals in my E series. And I thought I put it back in right. But I didn't. it goes down and you have to pull it back up with your foot or hand. what did I do wrong.

Most likely don't have the return spring in correctly, or wedged up the spring guide. Get a manual...it will answer your transmission issues, kick starter, and whatever else you tear into.
