National backorder on crankshafts for the KDX

The last part in need to finish my restoration? You guessed it. Ive been having trouble getting my hands on a complete crankshaft for my 03' KDX. Ive ordered from multiple web sights with the same result including a very frustrating experience from bikebandit. I would prefer to get a brand new crank but at this point I wana get this build over with. Any suggestions of what I should do? Should I wait for the crank to get off the backorder? Any advise would be appreciated because ive been banging my head against the wall since November.

Is your crank irreparably damaged? Can't have it rebuilt?

My buddy is doing the restoration for me and he told me it needs a new one. I went all out restoring the bike got a brand new cylinder and everything because I want this bike to last me another ten years.

Buy a used crankshaft off ebay and have it rebuilt.

I second the rebuild part. You get a new rod, bearings( which is what went wrong with yours) and most shops will sell the kit and press them together for about the same price as a new crank

A new OEM crankshaft is a hell of a lot more expensive than buying a used one and having the connecting rod kit rebuilt.

A Chinese one will be cheaper, but OEM is around $350, I think.

What did he mean by "needs a new one"? Does he mean it is damaged beyond repair? Or that it in need of bearings, rod, etc?

I agree with the rebuild of an ebay crank. I had one rebuilt about a year ago for $120 parts and labor plus the crank cost.

Are you guys having the cranks rebuilt locally or sending them out (who do you use)?

I also thought I read a while ago that complete crankshafts weren't available for the KDX and the only option was a rebuild??

OEM was/is the only option for a complete crankshaft, I believe.

That does sound familiar now.

There is no one locally that I would use for a rebuild. Any suggestions on who to send it to? I've found a few places online that have nice looking sites that say a lot of impressive things, but I'd rather make a decision based on experience.

I used Topgearmx in Wolfboro, NH. I had no idea if they were worth a darn or not, but they were listed on ebay and were fairly cheap. As it turned out, they did a good job.

Are they consistently good? I don't know.

Crankworks

some place out in NM(Sorry)

Ken O'Conner Racing seems nit picky

RB Designs may do this sort of thing, maybe not day in and day out
