Hey there,
I am pretty new to dirt biking and still learning a bunch. I would really
really appreciate some knowledge on this gear issue. I purchased this bike less then a month ago. I test drove it for 20 mins max, and it rode pretty nice!
When I was changing my tranny oil I glanced through the oil plug
opening and noticed this gear was chipped on the edge! First of all being a newbie I have no idea what this gear is?? I am still waiting on
my service book from the dealer...so It's a little hard to research what I am looking at! What would cause this & is it hard to replace? I am hop8ng this is the only thing wrong with the bike!! I will post some pics and maybe someone could tell me what they think! First have to figure out how to post a pic! Appreciate it!

That is the back side of your clutch basket. That large gear is driven by the crank via a smaller gear located to the front of the clutch. Wouldn't hurt for you to pull the right case cover off and inspect for any further damage. Likely you'll find the piece floating around the bottom unless it already drained out during an earlier oil change.
Replacement means a new clutch basket, but is not a hard job and a good time to do a clutch job anyway (new plates, springs).

Thanks bufftester! Ok so I have been looking on line for the replacement parts.
Do I just need a complete clutch rebuild kit and a clutch basket? Can you recommend an affordable kit?

I use EBC and have had good luck with them. As for baskets you could find one on Ebay, but even there they are pricey. Its likely you could inspect the engine, ensure there's nothing else floating around in there, and continue to run it as is with little concern. I'd try to find a replacement first, but if it were me and it came down to riding or not, I'd ride, but that's me and I'm cheap

Awesome!! Ok I'll get on ordering the ebc one! In regards to the large gear, will that come with the clutch basket or do I order a separate part?? What would I call that gear? Once again appriecate the feed back bufftester!

Hey Dekon,
I can see that part is the clutch housing, but I am not seeing the gear like my broken one in my pic...separate part is it not...or that large gear is apart of the clutch basket? Haha I will eventually clue in!

The large gear is riveted to the back of the clutch basket, all one unit.

I would also recommend pulling the side cover and looking around but if your going to just run it, as I also probably would, I cant see replacing the clutch unless it needs one.
