Headlight screw question

So the little screw that holds the bottom of the headlight in vibrated out of my '04. According to the online parts diagram, there is a little spring that supposed to be on there. Of course my local dealerships don't stock this item, (nor any other part I have ever asked for) so I wanted to just get the thing at an auto house. Does anyone have the specs for the screw (length, thread pitch, etc.) and the spring? I actually use my light, so I'd like to get away from this stylish temporary fix.

I personally like the stylish fix. I think you should leave it as is!
I check the parts diagram and it doesn't show a screw pitch or length. Hopefully somebody with a stock headlight can take their screw out and measure/match it up for you.

I have an OEM shell at home...I'll check it out..take a pic..post it..measure it...define and completely illuminate the issue for your perusal.
.......well, if'n I rememmer to do it that is!
If I don't...harp on me about it!
No...I don't want to get rid of the screw I have (if it's even still IN there....)
I recall it to be a 'speshul' screw anyway. You could put something in that would work, though.
HEY! What are 'ya doing sitting next to that 'easiest' symbol thing? Let's see some
black!
(USFS black=you might need to shift down to 2nd gear once in awhile)

I assume your talking about the screw that holds the head light to the housing. This screw is 1 1/2" in total length. It has a round non tapered phillips head and is threaded just like a sheet metal screw. I compared it to scews that are marked as #8 and #6 sheet metal screws. It's actaully a tiny bit smaller than the #8 but the spring fits over a #8 and the # 8 will screw into the plastic head lamp bulb assembly. The spring is 3/4" long and ID is sized to fit perfectly onto the #8 (fits the OEM a bit loose) sheet metal screw.
That's about all I can tell you!

Well...so much for THAT!
Yeah...screwing into plastic the thread/diameter won't be critical.

awesome. thanks. I'll go git me one. Oh, and the dude that took my picture was on a photo safari and didn't want to be on the rough stuff cuz he kept hopping off his bike. Honest. plus, 'round here a green sine wave looking thing means "easiest" the blue one is "More Difficult" and then the black one is sposed to be tough. To be honest though, I think there's a lot of interpretation going on in those ratings, very erratic.

I lost the screw on my headlight so I put some duct tape on the inside to hold the light against the housing.....its been there 2 years now.

re: blue/green
Ubee right.
I have a 'more difficult' time remembering some things.
Besides...it was only funny ('sposed to be) if it was EASIEST...so I just made it up!!
I'll get a pic if you still wanna........
Cheers!

"They" say a picture is worth a 1000 words. (Whoever "they" are?)
Too do that, I'd have to find the batteries for the digital. Infact, I'd have to find the digital as well.

Then download the pictures to the computer. Then upload the pictures to....prolly the gallery since I have nothing else set up on the web. Then restart the computer after it crashed.

Then re-upload the pictures. Then post a link. Am I up to 1000 words yet? Dang it...alright here are the pictures.
Whoops. That middle picture is not right. Can anyone guess which is the OEM and which is the sheet metal screw?

That's the second time this thread that you managed to sneak in a post before I finished typing my post.

I'm going to have to learn to type and take photo's much faster.

Sheesh, you guys are on it! I was feeling all cool just getting the picture into the original post. Oh, and CC, those Tusk guys also offer a bigger fender gizmo to go over the guards if that interests you, no green though as I recall, have to go with white or black.

Robb...

I'm confused...was I supposed to illustrate the value of the parts by using the known unit of measurement of $.25 or even $.10?
I was barely able to get the spring and screws to stay on the fender long enough for the photo, let alone adding the tape measure to the mix.

Besides, I already posted the info on the the length of the OEM screw and spring, and the diameter of the sheet metal screw in my first post. That's like 3 known units of measurement...isn't it?
Tough crowd in this thread.

Most when going to get parts forget their wallet let alone a tape measure or even remember what they were going to get and the size.
But.... most will have a quarter or dime in their pocket and can even ask the helpful folks at the local True Value if they're a little shy!

re: tough crowd
I'm still waiting to hear what I win for my 'which is oem' guess......
Maybe a tape measure?
Well, assuming I 'guessed' correctly.............
