I've got a 2002 kdx200 and may be picking up a 2000 kx250 rolling chassis; will that work, or is a 125 chassis better?

Would be fine, you'll have to work around a larger chassis, but think of the extra room.

The 125 is preferred. The idea behind the hybrid is not just modernizing suspension and ergo's, but placing the KDX engine in a smaller, lighter, more manageable chassis. Still, any hybrid is a cool hybrid, and I imagine you will have an easier time with engine placement. Airbox and pipe may be a challenge, but nothing a little creative engineering can't take care of.

Actually, the kx just needs a crank so I may fix it up. On a side note: I just bought a 1990 rm80 and a 1991 rm125 for $200 total! Both were bought new in 91 by a former riding buddy and are in excellent condition! I expected a price of 1500-1800 for both when I went to get them, but $100 per bike nearly made me pass out. It pays to ask people you haven't seen in ten years if " they might want to sell those old bikes" :) it is the deal of the century!

How bad is the crank in it? I have one that survived a piston failure that has a few small dings in the weights if your interested.

You said you just want a 250 in the other thread so rebuild that sucker! Those are great bikes.
