I would like to race this bike.

What type of race is my best bet? Enduro,MX ? Updates are head shaved to increase compression for more bottom end carb boring to increase power from bottom to top amp fmf gnarly pipe with fmf turbine core muffler. I had c and m performance in cda re-valve fork and shocks with race tech gold valves for a more aggressive off road setting and I rebuilt the top end with wiseco piston and rings and installed new rear tire sprocket and chain. Pictures are below.

Sounds good. You like it? You have a 220, right? Is that the Woods or the Rev? Gold valves working out for you? Most guys skip that and just swap out the forks...

Yeah 220, Gold valves working as advertised  Bike is reliable and the bottom end through mid is amazing. Wish I knew how to post pics.

Generally 2-cycle heads aren't shaved, but the squish area/profile is cut on a lathe, and the 33mm 220 carb is generally bored to 36mm.

That sounds about right it was done when I bought it.

Nope. With those mods your bike deserves a set of newer usd forks!!

Yeh, good point. I should just bite the bullet and get them. Which ones would you recommend?

Easiest swap is the kx500, 91 kx125, 91 kx250, 90 kx125, 90 kx250. I list the 90 and 91 seperate because they switched from 41mm to 43mm forks in 91 which I found out the hard way. Most guys prefer the newer stuff I see a lot of 98-03ish swaps on here but I love my front end which is:

91 triple clamps, 93 kx250 forks, 93 front wheel/brake its an amazing upgrade.

Try a hare scrambles or enduro. Good luck.

Edit: do enduro first

This bike would be perfect for an enduro. Newer forks would erase that last little disadvantage over newer bikes, but that is not necessary for enduro use, IMO.

What will likely get you is physical conditioning. After 2 hours and 40 miles, with 20 to go, what type of bike you are on is not nearly as important as what kind of shape you are in. I've passed many a faster bike in the last 10 to 20 miles of an enduro because I still had some steam left. I've also been absolutely whupped in the last half and just dragged elbows all the way in.

I did one enduro on my 1994 KDX200. For me, it was great! It was a long trail, so since I started toward the rear, almost everyone was already way in front of me and I didn't have to worry too much about getting in the way and holding up others.

I race mine in hare scrambles, and it is a real advantage in the tighter woods. The bigger bikes will pull ahead in the wide open sections, but you can run them back down in the tight stuff. Your conditioning is key, because it is like a marathon. Go and have fun with it, like a fast trail ride.

My race series has a few KDXs running at every event.

Just a warning, racing is addictive.
