rear shock piston.

I was tearing into my rear shock last night and may have mixed up some shims on the piston. When I took it off the shaft I placed everything on a ziptie and placed it on the bench. When I went to put everything back together I either mixed some things up or the shims started to move around. Anyways I was hoping someone could tell me or show me what order the shims/washers go in. I've got a service manual but I didn't see anything there that told me the information I need. Thanks for any help.

It is a 1990. Are those shims layed out in the order that they should be placed on the piston? Does one stack just sit on top of the other? I should have paid better attention when I took it off but it was late and I was exhausted at that point, which is why i stopped at this point. Thanks for the help.

Hi. They are in order. Each sits on either side of the piston. One side is larger than the other.

I want to say the compression stack is the larger stack/side.

Sorry when you say in order I assume you mean left to right? Are you saying one side of the piston is larger than the other? And if the compression stack is larger will that side be closer to the nut end of the shaft or the base of it? Sorry for all the questions. My suspension knowledge is non existent.

The left side of the picture is the side that touches the piston. Look at where the piston has rubbed against the shim. The four compression holes are farther out than the rebound side.

Compression side of the piston is toward the clevis (bolt holder thingie). The rebound goes toward the nut.

Sounds good. The next time I'm working on the bike i'll lay all the shims out and make sure everything is in order. Thanks for the help.

Hey. No problem. I did not remember having that picture during my first post, but I am glad it seems to have helped.

Well I got the shock back together and got my first ride on it this past weekend. It's amazing how much of a difference a few bearings and seals makes! Now I just need to get my stator rewind done so I can get some good light of it.

Sweet. It is good to hear you got it all back together. Riding fresh vs. riding old always is better.
