So I can't decide what to do. I've got a '90 kdx that needs a total rebuild. I'm doing the motor right now. I don't think you can beat the kdx motor for a woods bike. The gearing is great. I'm not a racer. I'm 41 and I would say a solid intermediate rider. Not a stranger to bikes or custom fabricating. I used to build custom rock buggies. I fell into a '99 cr250 rolling chassis. Everything except motor, carb and cdi. So should I build a hybrid on the stiff chassis or a fork swap on an old kdx?

The CR would be an upgrade in some areas so it really is just up to you. I chose to just rebuild my entire '90 KDX with the addition of '96 KX125 forks. Works great for me and I'm a 42yo intermediate rider myself. I can run with anything in the tight single track including the orange modern day equivalent, the KTM 200xcw.

Saw your build thanks. It looked really easy. My KDX chassis and plastics are not in good shape. So I guess I'll be copying you. Do you have any completed pictures? I think I'm going all black.

All black will look great! Until you ride it... IMHO black plastic scratches and shows every flaw to the point that your freshly rebuilt bike will look 20 years old after a couple of trips through the woods. I think my next color choice will be white if I can find everything I need.

So the cylinder needs coated and a new stock size piston. Is there a cost effective big bore? I'm looking at $270 for coating and piston. I'm also doing the rb head and carb mods at the same time.

I once spoke with Eric Gorr about the 1989 - 1994 KDX200 and big bore possibilities. A 240cc option is available, but the power valve system is lost.

I called his business today. They put me on the phone with him. He was an ass. He will never see any of my money.

WOW!! You are the first one to ever comment negatively on his lack of people skills. Enough people hire him for his porting skills to have him apparently not worry about the people skills part of it.
