Hi today saw a post about using xr400 clutch friction plates on kdxs. Now the question, by no means Im an expert but is posible to use a Rekluse or Revloc auto clutch made for xr in a kdx?

An interesting question. I'm surprised this hasn't come up before. I haven't got the answer, but I will be patiently waiting to hear from someone who does!

In theory you can use the dyna ring type auto clutch of the xr because the only thing the auto cluch do is expand at certain rpms (centrifugal force) to compensate the gap between the components in order to make the grip. If any one have data about interchangeable clutch friction plates for kdx please make a reply because I want to do the experiment.

People have used the 400 friction plates, but I don't think the 400 dynarings are any more available than the kdxs are they.

Find out what the diameter of the XR400's center hub is and compare to the KDX's inner hub. If they are similar it might work. However, I suspect that the XR400 hub would be smaller which would keep the KDX hub from being able to be inserted. Let us know what you find out!

Don't think you will find a Dynaring for the XR. There was some chatter a couple years ago, the usual "hey I just talked to a rep at Revloc and they are getting ready to test a clutch for the XXXX" but nothing ever materialized. You can get the Dynaring from Revloc Australia for the KDX, but not for an XR, and Rekluse doesn't make any XR anything. From what I remember the XR friction plates (not the drive plates) could be used in a KDX, but they weren't the same thickness which resulted in having to use at least 1 KDX plate to make the stack the right height. Why even bother these days, plenty of cheap aftermarket KDX kits available (the EBC I bought last year was like 70$).

I don't know about the auto clutches for the XR, but I have used XR friction plates in a KDX. Search around there are a number of posts on the subject.
The outermost plate has to be a KDX one, the rest can be XR. There is a bit wider friction material on the XR plates. I've used them because the local shop generally stocks them but not KDX plates.

Thanks to all of you for the information, today found that trx450, cbr 400, xr250-350 -400 and kdxs use the same clutch friction plates so I will keep looking for a match from Rekluse. let you know if I found something.

TRX? really? Interesting. Rekluse has auto clutches for 04+ TRX450.
The plates being compatible isn't much indication that the associated autoclutch would work (basket and center hub) out of the box, but maybe some hybrid of stock parts and an auto clutch from one of those bikes using the same plates?

I feel that if there was talk at one time about making a set up for a KDX, that Rekluse would know that they could put a set together with parts that they already have... that is... if they have any
real engineers working there... like me

I don't think Rekluse has ever given it any real thought, just lip service.

Sorry make a mistake in my last post. The early trx 250 is the one that uses the same kdx clutch friction plates not the trx 450.

I see they have the 1988-2002 Kawasaki KLF220 Bayou listed in the clutch disk list. Isn't that an auto clutch machine to start with? If so would it be worth looking into what they use to make it work there? I see a complete clutch can be had for cheap on ebay but they look like a normal clutch from the pictures.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2002-BAYOU-220- ... c4&vxp=mtr so maybe they aren't auto clutches... Can any one say if they are or aren't?

it would seem that the klf220 use a manual and also a semi auto clutch, from some info I have just read I doubt it would work on the kdx.
here is the info I googled.........
On the Kawasaki's with the semi auto clutch transmission's there are 3 different way's to acess the adjusting screw's , one has a rubber cap to remove to acess the adjusting screw and locknut , one has 2 screw's to remove the cover to acess the adjusting screw and locknut ; and the other has 3 screw's to remove the cover to acess the adjusting screw and locknut ! My manual doesn't cover the KLF220 or the KLF250 but if your KLF220 has the semi auto clutch the adjustment's are the same as one of 3 in my manual , but if your KLF220 has a manual clutch it wouldn't be covered in this manual ; on the manual clutcn model transmission the clutch is disengaged using the left hand lever on the handleBar's ! On the semi auto clutch model transmission the atv has a multiple - disc clutch that is activated by the gear shift lever . As the gear shift lever is operated to change gears , the clutch is disengaged through a linkage connected to the shift shaft ; as you are shifting up or down a gear when your foot is pressed up or down as you're changing gear's the clutch is disingaged while your foot has pressure on the shifter ! When you release the pressure on the foot shifter the clutch is engaged , and with each time you go up or down a gear ; while your foot has pressure on the shifter the clucth is disengaged and ingaged when you release the pressure ! This is the best way i can describe the way the semi auto clutch work's on your ATV , so if your quad has the semi auto clutch type transmission it only depend's on whitch type of cover your model has ; on the KLF220 the adjustment of the clutch should be like this ! Remove the screws holding the cover to access the adjusting screw and locknut , loosen the locknut and turn the adjusting screw clockwise untill the screw start's to get hard to turn ; then turn the screw counterclockwise untill resistance is felt . Hold the screw in position and tighten the locknut , then reinstall the cover ; and check the clutch adjustment by shifting gears with the engine idling . The Engine should not die/stall when changing gears , these instruction's are for a Kawasaki KLF185 ; it should be the same on the KLF220 and the KLF250 if they have the semi auto clutch transmission ! About removing the adjusting screw and locknut , like you were talking about maybe having to replace them ; this manual doesn't have the instructions for this job !

Thanks for the idea never though about that one, but today looking At the schematics found that the bayou uses a dual stage clutch one wet clutch and one clutch (gokart type centrifugal clutch) that engages to move the sprocket. this system is also found in the klx110 semi-auto.
