I think we have a winner! Don Pardo, tell him what he's won. It does look like an exhaust sub-valve. Since it sounds like you "unfortunately" know about it, can we continue o assume it is yours? If so, when do we get to start on the "would you take advice from a guy whose subvalve looks like that" jokes?

It's a new ear stud some of those younger kids are wearing nowadays. No wait, it's a squashed bullet slug that mushed funny when it hit something. If its KDX engine related, can't ehlp much there - yet.

It's just short of an inch long.

Yup..I think Inda looked at the name of the file (before I deleted it and reloaded with a different name...cuz I didn't want it to be THAT easy!)

It's a RH subport valve. Part of it, anyway. Was doing some regular maintenance (repacking the S/A), noticed a broken lower pipe mount. So, off came the pipe...with a rattle in it!

And lookee what came out!

Easy to do now, but looking back there did seem to be a bit less tractability on the bottom end a ride or two back...but it wasn't much of a deal.

Something that (again, is easy now) DID make me wonder...there has been just lately a good deal of spoo out the KIPS actuator rod cover (RH). I figured the o-ring had quit.

I asked Mr. Fredette about it...cuz they were the last folks in there. The last time the KIPS was serviced was when the cylinder was ported/bored/plated. Yes, I did check the ops of the KIPS when I put the bike together, it was: Timed. Working. Freely moving. Mr Fredette said, '..have not heard of this on the 1995 and newer. the 89-94 happen when the top end has not been service for a while. the valve will break and wear around in there and get stuck or fall out.'

Seems real odd to me. It would break...why? There isn't a lot of stress on the thing. Not been serviced for awhile? Yes, carbon buildup would do it. I have no carbon buildup. My KIPS is wet...but it isn't carboned up. Naturally, I wonder 'What did they do?'. That IS unfair..but they were the last folks in there. If it WAS an 88-94, I would wonder a lot less.

Great! '..wear around in there...'. What does that mean? Think the cylinder is shot?

I'll have to find out later, cuz I'm not taking it apart one-two days before Labor Day!!

Maybe I all of a sudden have a need for that new-to-me cylinder I have sitting at home......

First, I have a need for a piston kit.............

For the winner? An all beer paid trip to the State of Jefferson for a bit of a spoogy ride in the Prospect OHV system this Labor Day Weekend!!! Yippee!!

The 'new' cylinder? It's a 'B'.

My OEM cylinder is a 'B' also. Well...it was a 'C', but I had it plated to a 'B'. I don't have a cylinder guage, but the clearances were OK. ...like I could tell the difference......

Old hat...but for first timers (or somebody) the difference is .01mm, which is less than 1/2 of one thousandth (.00039") of an inch. Doesn't amount to diddle when it comes to figuring piston-to-cylinder clearances....

Oh...an 'A' is the smallest, an 'F' is the largest of the alpha-designated Pro-X pistons, 65.94mm/65.99 respectively.

I figured you'd pull something like that...but you did a darn good job of it!! Ha!

Holy cow!!! I just looked up parts: The subport drum is $45.50 from Ayers!!! Criminy!!

They don't show an o-ring on the rod..just 'packing'. What am I missing?

I appreciate that. I'll have the cylinder checked with a bore guage and then I'll know for sure what to get.

What is your favorite number for piston/cyl clearance if you could pick it? .003/4" or so?

Note: Wiseco owners need not respond! If you used 3/4 thou clearance, you'd be rebuilding your bike by now...

Oh..that's 3 or 4...not three quarters...

That'd be pretty good! Currently mine is bore is 66.014 /piston 65.95
