Idle screw doing nothing

My idle screw goes in and out, but has little effect on the idle. The bike is running fine, although a bit thirsty, I was trying to adjust the jetting but decided to stop until I worked out the problem with the idle screw.

All the idle screw does is simply lift the slide up a tiny bit, just like if you were to crack the throttle a tiny amount.
If you take the carb off and remove the throttle slide you should be able to see the idle screw moving in and out if the carb body when you turn it.
Inspect the screw itself and the carb slide to make sure they are both good and functioning properly first.
