Buddy of mine brought a yz250 up from FL. I been wrenching on it a bit for him. got it running, but no idle, and instant load up and choke if not heavy on the throttle. The idle screw was stuck tight and stripped to death. I drilled a small hole in it and drove a square bit into the hole, and got it out that way. After replacing the air screw, it did not make any difference in air screw position, still loading up and dying, and really hard to start. Probably just clogged up, but I happened to have a carb from a 94 yz, so I just swapped it this morning. BAM, suddenly it's a bike! Had some fun riding around my property with it this morning. Fun to get a pitiful bike back to life!!! Other than that, this bike is in great shape. No use over the last 8 years. Bearings all good, brakes are great, handling is nice, and the motor feels crisp as anything.
Just a random share! lol. Happy saturday!

Nice.....I consider that the ultimate 'builders' year as it's the more updated chassis, but has the older style motor (or at least the same trans) allowing WR gears to be swapped in. They actually made it as a WR in canada...we got the 400. Someone on here had one with an Ohlins 360cc cylinder on it...Sick.

Nifty. I will look into the WR gear swap! Need to track down a flywheel weight too.

You will need the trans from a WR250 2t for your year YZ. Swap on a 94-97 US WR cylinder, head and powervalve and really wake that bike up! I raced a 95 and a 97 WR250 and they were some of my alltime favorite bikes! For the 99 on up motor, the complete trans from a WR400/426 is just about a drop in with very minor clearancing needed.
My 97 WR250 with a custom carbon fiber 3 gallon tank and YZ seat.

So the trans gears have to come from a 98 wr? Nice bike!

I happen to have the original motor from my WR. I swapped in a rebuilt one from ebay I snagged for less than the cost of a full-rebuild (parts). I'd consider selling it. Cyl needs replated...other than that it ran OK.

I happen to have a 02 YZ250 with a blown motor that I thought about doing a older WR250 motor conversion. I might be interested if Julien isnt.
