Fork oil question?

I have KYB 46mm forks, stripped them down to change seals, on filling with new oil & removing all the air & compress the tube with spring removed, where should the oil level be before adjusting the amount, would it be the top of the inner tube or the top of the outer tube (over the thread to the very top). Searched everywhere and cant find the answer. Once both forks are fully filled & air removed, can i just syringe out 100ml on each, does this sound correct or have i got it totally wrong? Thanks guys!

When the forks get filled and air bled out then you fill the forks up close to the top and then suck out a ceratin amount of mm to bring the level back down. It is a distance from the top not a volume of oil. You will need to find out what the distance is supposed to be for the forks you have.

Hi, So your saying over the thread of the outer tube & pretty much to the very top with the oil? can anyone else advise of the distance down from the top please?

Measure down from the very top. 90 - 120mm is a good starting point. Adjust from there as needed.

found the info you need!
even the standard fork settings!
all in this thread martin,
http://www.thumpertalk.com/topic/770636 ... -fork-oil/
but if it helps..........
Capacity = 514 +/- 4 mL
Level = 68 ~ 72 mm .. top of the inner tube to the oil
Adjustable Range = 60 - 120 mm
Compression - 10 of 18 clicks out from full clockwise
Rebound 12 of 18 out from full clockwise
best regards
john

Thanks John, done a lot of searching but not found anything as helpful as that! Thats cleared up that problem. One final question.. Regarding fork seals, Can't seem to locate genuine KYB seals here in the UK, ive seen 46mm Kayaba, will these be ok. KYB/KAYABA the same fork?? Martin.

John, starting to progress with the stem swap, had the kx stem pressed out today only 4 tonne of pressure needed & some heat! been stripping my front end down today.Going back Saturday for the KDX stem removal. hopefully the KDX stem will be a straight press in to the KX bottom yoke? Martin.

hiya martin,
glad to hear it is coming along well
from what i read here..............
http://kdxrider.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=104&t=1785 it looks like your kdx stem should just press into the kx lower clamp!
fingers crossed for you.
best regards

Hi John, Yes..bit of luck it will press straight in, then stage 1 complete, still not sure how far i wanna go with the kdx makeover, although now i have started to break the bike down, i seem to wanna keep going, not sure i will bother with powder coating as 80% of frame is hidden! might pump that money into other tasty mods, maybe wheels?
Got a price for the maier plastics front & rear... OUCH
Shipping alone is mega bucks!! but hey... it's on the cards. Martin.

No knurling required.
Martin.

Hi John, Got the new bearing on the stem (all balls) think i need to make a shim now as the KX top clamp has a larger hole & the stem is a little sloppy! can i just use some thin sheet metal wrapped around the KDX stem to fill it out?
Oh.. still not purchased that wheel yet. Martin.
Nearly forgot, collecting the rear maier fender tomorrow from parcel depot... yes you guessed it, customs fees. for a piece of plastic that has turned out way too expensive!!
