Hey folks. Just picked up a old 89 and got it started and there is coolant leaking out of the head gasket. Is this a pretty straight forward repair? Thanks in advance! :supz:

First off check your head nuts to make sure they are all tight. That could be your only issue.
If they are fine and it still leaks then you most likely will just have to remove the head and install a new head gasket.
It should be a very simple and straight forward repair.

Great call on this. I pulled the tank and looked at the head bolts and there was no bolt where the leak was. Thanks for the info it saved me alot of work! :partyman:

Welcome, good to have ya!

Is the stud missing? I bet it's the one above the KIPS, right? Closest to the exhaust.

When I rebuilt my E, I had some leakage at the head gasket. I pulled the head and shot some Copper Coat on the same gasket. I retorqued the nuts and it's been water tight ever since. I have used this trick a couple of times to reuse metallic head gaskets with great success.
