How did it perform? I have been keeping an eye out for a used desert pipe which is the one recommended by Fredette but they are hard to come by. I have come across a few woods pipes though. Do they make a difference on the 220? Thanks

i have a woods pipe on my 220 with a powercore2 silencer..compared to the OE pipe the fmf gives good mid range power with a little on top too, the bottom end pull was not effected as the the 220 always had good straight off the throttle pull anyway, there are lots of mods you can do to your 220 to enhance its performance over the RPM range, $$$ being the only question...a `rev` pipe will move the power curve up slightly but because the 220 is ported/tuned for more low to mid range grunt useing this pipe will only benifit on use in wide open spaces, the 220 runs out of steam quite quickly anyway...gnarly pipe or woods imo works very well over the entire rmp range.

I have the rev pipe on my 220, and I've ridden a 220 with the woods pipe. No comparison IMO. The Desert pipe is MUCH more at home on the 220. Both pipes felt identical on the bottom, but the woods pipe just signs off much earlier.

If I were you, I'd keep looking. RMATV is selling them brand new for cheap too.

While I have not had any personal experience with both pipes on a 220, this is what I have always heard. The REV pipe behaves like a Woods pipe on the 220.

I rode a 220 ages ago with the BURLY pipe on it too, I just can't remember what the ride was like. It was the first KDX I threw my leg over so I had nothing to compare it too. From what I've heard though, the BURLY has even more top end than the Grarly Rev.

Have both pipes (I have a 200 and 220 H model) and switched them out just to see the difference. The rev pipe with other low-cost mods makes the 220 behave like a torquier 200 that is using a woods pipe - they both rev out similarly. I can pull a gear higher with the 220 rev setup a lot of places compared to the 200 with the woods pipe. The woods pipe on the 220 doesn't do much IMO. The rev pipe on a 200 makes tight terrain a lot more work than it has to be.

I think the intention by FMF was to make a seperate pipe for each bike. THe 200's get the "woods" and the 220's get the "desert." It just so happens that both pipes fit both bikes, so therein lies the confusion.

It's likely both pipes were designed for the 200's, since both were available prior to 1997....If I were a desert guy I'd be using the rev pipe on my 200 - it makes more peak power - the drawback is mostly falling off the pipe in tight stuff, you have to work harder to keep the rev's up and that can be tiring - especially for an old fart like me.
