I put in a fresh top end 6 hours ago in my 220, but riding today on the way back to my house the bike started pulling really strongly in 1st,2nd, and 3 gear, then it started to choke, then stalled, a few kicks later it starte up again, but felt less powerful than usual

What piston did you use? First step would be to check compression.

Wiseco, but when it kicks it has compression

That doesn't mean you have the proper amount of compression. The only way to know is to throw a gauge on it and check.

I'd say either you've lost some compression somehow, or sucked a piece of trash up into one of the jets.

Hate to bring this up but there is an old saying.... They run the best right before they die....
I would put a compression tester in before anything else.

I think I found the problem, I switched the gas knob from "on" to reserve and it seems fine

Uh, put some fuel in it!

BTW, we figured you had already checked for a no gas situation.

I bought a Hodaka motorcycle at a yardsale about 30 years ago. The guy said it quit while he was riding it and wouldn't restart. I took it home and put gas in it and it fired right up. I told the guy and he said he never even thought of checking for gas in the tank.
