Howdy--I've raced mtbs for years, and have ridden in two enduros--heres a video of me riding.
Would this be an okay bike to learn on or will it be extreme? It is a 2003 KDX 200 and the guy is looking for $1750
from the ad on NETRA:
suspension is modded to 165 lbs,
steering damper
Gnarly pipe
RB carb mods.
< 2000 miles on bike.
here's a video of me riding, fwiw.

absolutely. I learned on a KDX coming from mtb, and you already know how to ride. go for it.
Although you might want to consider a trials bike instead. Most of my mtb friends who converted to dirtbikes now ride trials bikes on mtb trails and trials trails.

A KDX would be a great bike for you. Unless the bike you mentioned is in near mint condition, $1750 is a bit high IMO.

Is it me or the camera angle? It looked as though you were sitting most of that video.

IMO the KDX is a perfect starter bike. Especially if you ride tight single track. I just got mine last December, and i LOVE IT!!! I come from a BMX and mtn bike background also. You will not be disappointed!
Sounds a bit high on price though. Mine has the same mods minus the RB carb. Its an '01 and i paid $1200.

The KDX will be fine as is. If the seller has the stock pipe, that would be a bonus as putting it back on will really mellow the bike out. in the video, it looks like you are sitting way far back on the seat for the most part. Maybe it is just the camera angle...
I am a NETRA rider as well, and I have not found a better suited bike than the KDX200 for most of their more boney events.
