hey guys
im thinking of adding a computer to the KDX
i was out riding today, hit up some dirtroads, went left right left lost
managed to find a gass station and my way back (eventually) but it made me realize how nice it would be to have a computer on the bike with a GPS marker that would always tell me which way home is (or wherever i dropped the marker)
are there any units out there like that ?

They sell a ton of GPS computers meant for bicycles. I know Garmin makes a few.
They are pretty pricey though. Also, I don't know how well they would hold up to the elements and rough dirt bike riding. Probably not too well.

Absolutely. Garmin etrex legend hcx with Ram handlebar mounts. That setup has hundreds of miles on my bikes; all off-road. The Legend HCX is an older model but has waypoints and track recording like you want. There's a review about these products somewhere on this forum.

the etrex looks good for keeping me from getting lost (and might even be abel to program maps into if i ever hit an actual ORV trail) but it lacks the other read out that i would like in a computer (speed, RPM temp and such)

I got a megellan sportrak pro for $40 on Craigslist a few months back. I just turn it on and put it in the rear fender bag if I'm going to ride where I could get lost easily. It tracks where you've been so you can get back the same way. Since I don't have a handle bar mount unit it really is only used when needed. I have to stop, open the bag, see where to go, and put it back. It was really a last minute idea before I went to a new area, but it was really helpful for infrequent use. I think if you are going to be using one constantly a handle bar mounted one would be best.

I'm running a Garmin foretrex 401. Runs on 2 AAA for good 8 hours, stores waypoints, has pan and trace back, and it absolutely blows away everything else in it size/price range . I was rather impressed how well it works in the woods where there is a lot of canopy overhead. The Garmin 301 I had ate batteries and always lost the sats. It was a pos.
