idle adjustment screw vs air screw

Can someone please explain the virtues of the idle adjustment screw, and how to properly adjust it? I am all square on setting the air screw, but where does the idle adjustment screw fit in getting the bike running properly. Thanks in advance.

The idle adjustment screw sets how low the slide will fall in the bore of the carb.
You may have to go back and forth a bit from air screw to idle speed screw to get a good idle, but the idle screw should not be used to compensate for a bad pilot jet choice
Sometimes the end that contacts the slide gets all buggered up.
