purple tank?

i am new to the kdx. couple freinds are riding trails and enduros and talked me into getting a bike. i picked up a 2000 kdx 200 local as a starter bike (not new to riding, just havent rode a dirt bike in 20 years). I thought i wanted a 4 stroke like yami ttr but i like the this kdx. power is decent and the suspension is great, just enough give when you need it. i been looking online and havent seen another kdx with a purple tank. someone spray painted it black but I have clean the paint off to find it purple. it has a green grip ceet seat cover also, maybe the original seat is purple underneth. is this purple tank stock or has someone switched tanks? the front plate has been changed to a motox type but the other plastics appear stock. I will prob stick with this bike and spend some cash on it maybe even get it street legal.

Yep, you bought a 97. No biggie, same as the 2000 except for graphics and purple tank.

the frame tag says 2000 the serial number matches title and it says 2000. i think its 2000 model just someone switched the tank.

i would like to smooth the power delivery. whats best things to do? maybe that bg carb mod read about here. i need to pull and check the reeds. is the power valve adjustable?

No, the KIPS are not adjustable. The KDX is well known for it's incredibly smooth and broad powerband. You may want to make sure that your KIPS are indeed working correctly. Also need to make sure compression is good, reeds are good, and no air leaks. After that, you need to go through the jetting. After that, you can worry about mods if you feel you need them.

Another 96. And the stickers are still available. I just had to replace the one on this side because the pressure washer stripped it off.

targetman, he has not been on here since July 2020. You might want to PM him. No need to dig up a 10 year old thread. :-)
