Rear fender extension.

Does anyone know if this is a rear fender extension? I need to extend my rear fender down to the axle centerline to complete making my KDX street legal in Washington State.

It's item 35019.

It looks like it will extend it a bit, but not as low as the axle. The rear fender on stock dual sport bikes usually are well above the axle, unless they mean with the suspension compressed. For the money, I'd find a used extension off a KLR, DRZ, XRL type bike on ebay and rig it to pass inspection. Example:

That's a great idea...I hadn't even thought of that. Thanks.
I called one of the places that does the inspection and they said the extension needs go half way from the top of the fender to the ground. He said he doesn't care what I use or what I do after the inspection but it has to be there during the inspection.

Bolt a front fender to the back of the rear fender. It will look pretty stupid but you could take it right back off.

I've converted bikes in three states and it's been my expierence that it all depends on the inspector you get. Except AZ, which is great.
When I first moved to NV, I had my old Husky plated in CA, and thought it would be a snap here. I had to make three trips to the bike shop to satisfy the inspector who was obviously on a power trip and said right off the bat "ain't 'dis here a dirt bike?" I spent tons of time and money geting my next bike TOTALLY legal and all the inspector cared about was that the VIN matched the paperwork.
Making it look factory might be a factor depending on the inspector, when you request something of the DMV you are usually in no position to argue.

I like the fender idea, I have a couple laying around to include an old (broken) rear fender.
As soon as my second rear view mirror gets here (from Baja Designs) I'll be ready for the state inspection.

I ended up using an old front fender. I cut it's length about 1/3 and shaved the sides with a Dremel tool then used heat to slightly reshape it. It still kinda looks like a front fender but not quite as gawdy. I might paint it black or just use electrical tape. To make it legal I had to bring it down to within about 20 inches from the floor. That sounds like a lot but if you look at your bike and measure 20 inches from the ground up you'll see that it's quite a bit of extension required.

Pics? I bet it looks damn sexy!

But if it makes it legal it's a cheap way out.
