Differences between 1997 and 2000???

Ok the roller I bought that was advertised as a 2001 is really a 1997. My fault for not checking the vin before purchase, but really???

Anyways. Now I'm stuck with it and it's not the first time.

So, I have a 2000 frame (and it really is a 2000...) and I am going to transplant all that I can. My question is about the suspension. Is there really that much difference between the 97 and 01 that I should cut my losses and just go with a later model or are they close enough that I won't really notice?

I imagine I will get some valving work done on them regardless, I just don't want to start well behind the game

Thanks

Pete

Both have 46 mm cartridge forks. Would have to look at parts fiche to see if shock will bolt up.

Thanks for that. It looks like the neck bearings are different so I may have to do a stem swap on this one too....

I put the 97 shock in the frame and it appears as though it will work although I may get a KX250 shock to better match my weight anyway.

Wonder if my kdx shock would fit....

Thanks again

There is absolutely no difference in suspension between 95-2006.

Just for clarification, I am talking about the KX.

I spent some time looking at and comparing part numbers between the 2.

It looks like the complete front end and rear suspension are identical. The rear shock upper mount was moved slightly and I'm not sure if the rake/trail are the same, but they're close.

The rear subframe is different, but the 97 fits on the 01

The gas tank changed slightly, but it looks like it will fit with minor mods. The biggest difference here is that the shrouds bolt to the frame on the 97 and the tank on the 01. I will have to either make mounts or move them over.

The seat looks unchanged

I bought a 01 swingarm so I hope to gain any improvements in the geometry.

I'll see if I'm right.....
