Hi all,

I stupidly snapped one of the four studs (lower right) on the left fork that holds the axle plate in place. There are not enough threads left to get 2 nuts on it to try and get it out. Any ideas?

Option 1: If you have access to a welder place a larger nut over the broken stud and weld the nut to the stud. if the stud is broken off flush with the surface place a flat washer centered over the stud and weld washer to stud. Now you have a large enough surface to weld a nut to the washer. Allow time to cool and spin the stud out.

Option 2: grind broken stud flush to surface, center punch stud, drill small pilot hole and extract with extractor. this will be pretty tough because the stud is of such small diameter.

Option 3: Fork conversion

yep, if there is something to grab onto, it should come out with vice grips. Happened to me once. I have extra studs if you need one.

I got the piece out tonight. Used vise grips and came out after I ground a bunch of nuts trying to get both to grab the little threads that were left. I did pick up some m6 studs from napa but they wont work -the smooth length of the stud is too long. i'll try to get the right size tomorrow and if not I'll hit you up Varmint - Thanks!

Or dont use a stud and just convert it to a 10MM bolt.

btw, the stud's part number is 172G0622. Search for it using Google.

Thanks for replying to my PM and also posting the stud part number here for the benefit of anyone else who may need it.

It also looks like the 172G0622 part number has been superceded by part number 172BA0622. At least that is what I found when I googled it and found it on the Ron Ayers website.

I ultimately found M6 studs at Napa that were close to the right length on the end that goes into the fork leg and too long on the cap side . I cut it down and chamfered it and it worked fine. If you really need to find something just grab some long M6 bolts or M6 threaded rod and cut them to size.
