In Fruita, CO the BLM land is covered in what is called cryptobiotic soil. they are very concerned thet the mountain bikers stay on the trail to preserve said soil. and forays off the beaten path are quickly and harshly judged. Strangly they let the ranchers graze thousands of head of cattle though? Seems odd.... The wildernes designaion is utter BS.
