looking to buy a KDX and have a question

I am getting back in to riding after almost 20 years away--going to start riding with my 10 yr old son and am planning on getting a KDX. Last bike I had was an 88 YZ250.
Anyway, is there any place that lists the changes year to year from 99 to 2005? I would love to know the differences...or if there were any big improvements during a given year.
Is there anything in particular I should look for to ensure the KDX I am buying is in good shape?
thanks!

There were no changes between 1995 and 2006 KDX 200/220 bikes other than maybe some graphics. Look for the same issues you would look for on any other bike. Nothing special.

Exactly as above. Just shop based on condition alone, and dont' pay much attention to the year.

you should get a 96...i think it is the only year they offered the "barney" package

LOL...barney package...I think I remember reading that one year something was purple along with the green.
Thanks for the info and advice folks. I always wanted a KDX when I was riding but my Dad was buying the bikes from people he knew and everyone around here rode Yamaha.
I have seen several possibilities within driving distance from 99 to 2002 and from 1200 to 1600 dollars.
Last question: is there a better time of year to buy a used bike? I don't really want to get my son a bike until after Christmas--it's going to be for his birthday in March so I don't really need one yet. But, if pickings will be slimmer after Christmas maybe I should go ahead and pull the trigger when I find a good one...what do you guys think?

I'd start checking out bikes now in person. If you start to see what's out there you'll know when a jem comes up.

fall and winter is usually time to buy, most offload to get better bike or figured they're not into riding anymore...
keep a eye out and go check out the one that fits your price range, I wouldn't jump on the 1st one I see, get the cleanest you can find.
if you see potentials but you're not sure, post away we'll be happy to give you our opinion.
Lucky kid by the way

yup, here is an older picture of mine, its hard to capture the purple on camera (always comes out looking more like blue) but in real life it is a dead match for the colour scheme on that friendly dinosaur
