My friend has a crf 150 and has to put a key in otherwise it won't start when he kicks it. (this is not a electric start bike only kick). Could I purchase something like this for my 2002 KDX 200?

Sure. Or you could just hide an on/off switch somewhere. Anything that disrupts the power going to the coil or CDI would do the trick.

it would be nice to have something like that
specially if it sees a lot of road use like my bike, it always bugs me knowing that while im at the store some joker could come by and fire up my bike

I prefer a disc lock on my dual sports that don't have steering locks. Makes it hard to push away or load up. I've also used a padlock on the rear sprocket in a pinch.

you know what, i just remembered i have 2 little ignition locks (about 3/4 of regular sized lock) which i planned on using on my KDX
i just never got round to installing them
if someone can tell us what wire to install it on i can send one out to you and install the other on my bike
then ill be the only one except you who can take off with your bike because i think the keys interchange

I have a key on my KDX. I simply wired my kill switch into the key. I got the key from Pro-Cycle.

i tried that...the bike would only run with the key in the "off" position
i still wouldnt mind but the key i have can only be removed in the "off" position and not in the "on" position

Sounds like the switch is either bad, or the wrong style. It should close (connect) the circuit in the "on" position, and open (disconnect) it in the "off" position. The one you have is apparently doing it the opposite.

Actually, the one he has is not doing the opposite. Sounds like he's got it wired in parallel with the kill switch, so when the key is "on", the circuit is closed, and is grounding the hot wire to the coil, so the bike won't start. When the key is "off", the circuit is open, so the hot wire to the coil isn't grounded, so the bike starts.
So what is really needed is a key that is "open" in the "on" position, and "closed" in the "off" position. Sounds strange, but true. That's the way the key switch on my daughter's Honda CRF100 works.
The switch he's using could be wired to break the connection of the coil's hot wire, but I don't recommend it; shutting the key off with the bike running would give the coil signal nowhere to go and might damage the CDI box; probably not, but maybe. The factory kill switch works by grounding the coil's hot wire; any other type of switch to shut off the ignition should work the same way to be safe.

Yeah, now that you mention it that's what's happening.
I forgot, turning the switch on would be like pushing the kill switch.

This one came with key. The hole in the frame behind the headset is where it goes.
Rode the piss outta one for 3 months in Nogoya, prolly where I learned to love the greenee-machinee!
