This is a 2005 KX125 that I bought for $700 because the owner had no paperwork and it had never been registered. It also needed a new rear wheel. I found a 2003 KDX220 for $1200. I laced up 18" rear KDX wheel to my KX hub with some new spokes ($65). I bought a reamer for $30 to increase the diameter of the mounting hole at the back of the motor. I made and welded the motor mounts in place myself. All in all it was a very easy build and I would encourage anyone who would like to try this build to do so.
I finished the build last Friday and raced it the next day at the Prospectors Grand Prix in Gorman.

Where did you get the reamer?

so how did it work for you in the race?

I bought the reamer at a local machine shop. When I got it home, the shaft was too large in diameter to fit into the chuck of my hand drill. I removed material from the shaft until it fit. Doing the actual reaming was very easy.

The race was a Grand Prix that took you through a variety of terrain; a motor-cross track, single track, hills, some sandy, some moist soil, some dry hard pack with lots of dust, lots of turns, some whops, etc.
The bike handled everything well. The power of the 220 in the light and nimble chassis was a great combination.
As this was my second time racing ever, I entered the beginner 250 lights class, 40 to 49 year old riders. I came in 3rd in class and 69th overall out of about 180 riders total in all classes.
