I recently installed a new Wiseco piston in my 2004 KDX 220, along with the RB head and carb mods, FMF Gnarly desert pipe with TurbineCore silencer, and Boyesen reeds. I broke this setup in with Kawasaki's 2-stroke racing oil at a 32:1 ratio and have been very please with the results. Plenty of power and absolutely -0- spooge.



Now that my dealer has raise the price of the oil from $5.00 to $10.00 a pint I'm looking to switch my oil over to Golden Spectro Two-Cycle Pre-Mix Blend, as I've always run this in my 1991 KTM 540 DXC at 50:1 with great result, i.e. plenty of power and no spooge.



I just looked at Spectro's website and while they suggest I could use their Golden Spectro Two-Cycle Pre-Mix Blend at 50:1 in my KDX, which I'm happy to do, they say their Platinum SX 32:1 100% Racing Synthetic is the ultimate two-cycle pre-mix engine lubricant, formulated specifically for use in modern two-cycle moto-cross racing motorcycles equipped with exhaust power valves requiring a 32:1 pre-mixed fuel-to-oil mixture.



Which oil would you suggest I use, and at what ratio?

Depending on how hard you ride i'd personally go with the synthetic power valve one at 40-1 or 50-1.
I run Amsoil interceptor (powervalve friendly) at 40-1 and may move to 50-1 as i'm seeing a little spooge, but no fowled plugs.

The second one is for motocross bikes. It burns off at a much higher temperature, and the lower temps in your kdx will cause it to foul things. Go with the first one.

Interesting... In considering changing to the SX2 oil I never thought about the potential problem of using it in a 'slower running' KDX, instead I focussed on the reference to the benefits of its use in engines with 'power valves,' which my KTM does not have...

I've run Spectro SX2 at 32:1 in my Banshee, KX 250 and KDX 220 for a few years now. No problems whatsoever with fouling or spooge.

Is anyone else seeing the Kawasaki oil at $10/bottle?

I used the spectro blend years ago at 50:1 with no problems. When I picked up my latest bike I used it again at 32:1 again with no problems. I ended up switching to Amsoil due to the spectro getting expensive and the people I ride with all used Amsoil at 40:1 so it was just easier to mix to what they were running and if you ran low on gas you could get some from someone.

True test of an oil for our application is when you run it for 4years and then tear your top-end apart. What's in there? A good full-synth that's not a full-on super-high-film strength has generally proven to yield nice clean powervalve parts. Mobil 1 MX2t Used to be a great go-to. Amsoil interceptor is great. Most synth/castor blends like spectro won't, but will provide great high rpm film strength.
