KDX motor swap ?'s
Hey guys... I'm new here. I've been on TT and couple other forums for a LONG time now and I was directed to here about my questions. Anyways my 134 05' kx125 engine is shot to hell. I tore into the motor today and found that I'll need a clutch basket, hub, plates, crank bearings, seals, and a replate... WATER LEAK FML any ways so the idea of putting a kdx motor in my 05' is definitely being considered by me. Now for the questions haha... Could I put an air-cooled KDX engine in the 05' without too many problems (if I decide to use air cooled engine it will be a kdx250 engine or POSSIBLY a modified kdx200 engine)? Also, I can do the swingarm mods EASILY... I have all the tools... What parts from the 200 will I need I'm assuming pipe, engine, electronics, and carburetor (maybe)...
Well thanx in advance...

i have a complete kx 125 2002 engine if you're interested. Dunno how well it would fit your 05 though.
Email me at scheckaet@yahoo.fr
I'm with rbate dunno if it wold be really worth fitting an old air cooled engine unless you already have one on hand that's in good shape...
I don't think anyone's tried it yet, most go with water cooled H serie (95-07) or E series (pre 95).
good luck.

Yes, the original KDX250 was air cooled and made in the early 80's. Great bikes for their time.rbates9 wrote:And did they ever make an air cooled KDX 250?
OP, yeah, engine, carb, electronics, and the pipe would be needed. You will end up probably doing some fab work on the pipe so save the pipe from your 125. I think a water cooled version would be a better choice but if you can get a great running AC motor for cheap then why not?

If so, would make an easy AF conversion... maybe!THill wrote:Im not forsure but isn't some of the air cooled models have the exhaust pointed to the side ? I think some of the older air cooled models had single down tubes and the exhaust aimed to the left side of the down tube ????
