how did you mount the headlight? I"m in the same boat, and want to keep my light.

looks sick ! where did you get the decals from? They custom?

Headlight mounted with the stock KDX mounting tabs.

Decals are a mixed bag. The shrouds and front fender graphics were custom order from PG. The numberplates and headlight I just bought blank black vinyl (FX I think) and trimmed to fit. Lot's of hair dryer use on the headlight to mold it to the shape. I'm no artist and the edges aren't perfect but it looks good from a distance.

I used the top KDX mount and a set of UFO? replacement rubber straps for the bottom. It worked out very well.

As for the odo cable I ran it thru the stock clutch cable guide that came off the KDX triple clamp that I could no longer use, mounted it to the right fork guard guide bolt. So far it has worked out ok.

so, what's the trick to installing the damned wheel on these monsters?

I had the frame supported, but not so the front wheel was in the air. Had to push up on the forks to get the front wheel on, and my first push down on the forks resulted in no movement at all of the forks - very disappointing.

I know about the "loosen everthing off and hit the brakes", but that didn't work either. I know the forks are binding, because they move independantly no problem.

I'm thinking of getting the frame supported high enough so the front wheel is off the ground with full extension on the forks. Will this help?



Never mind... Found the fork installation thread. Yup, lift the frame - front wheel off the ground.

where did you get your mx front and rear fenders and would they fit my 85 kdx?

madmax, it's time for a new (black) seat cover. Install is quite easy with a stapler and some patience.

Love the trials tire, love the new forks, love the headlight. Surprised to see an OEM kickstarter still alive, surprised to not see any pip guard at all, but good job.

Sorry, been out of commission. Had an ATV accident and almost killed my silly self. Bike runs and rides great. The new FMF Q made a difference over the old Turbine Core. Bike lost just a bit from the bottom but now it revs like a MX'er. Forks are both an improvement and a problem. Stock springs cause the front ride height to be low, I changed the fork oil from 5w to 7w and added 20cc's to each leg over stock but it still is a bit like a stink bug. I'm researching and saving for stiffer fork springs. According to Jeff Fredette's site, for stock KDX forks, a .38 would be great for my weight - but on KLX planet, their chart shows .42 for the KLX forks. Can anyone share some wisdom here?

Oh, and to answer bman.... Got the rear fender from Fredette Racing. The front is just a new KXF 250 fender (Acerbis) that I ordered from Motorcycle superstore or Rocky Mountain or one of those places I do business with. I'm guessing the front would fit yours but I doubt the rear would.

The KLX forks are soft with stock springs. They need to be swapped out.

Your forkguard guides are on the wrong sides.

For the fork springs, I would err closer to the KDX setup, because the KLX frame and engine are most likely heavier than the KDX frame and engine. I would look those weights up and compare them. With those two numbers I might try a .40, but I am fat and go over small jumps on occasion.
