Long Ride

Took my 2004 KDX out for a ride on the road over the past weekend with the intent on just going for 20 or 30 miles...ended up going on a 200 mile trip....Used one of those collapsable water jugs at the petrol station to mix the oil/fuel and it worked quite well. The knobbies are getting pretty wore down and I will probably replace them with a set of Michelin Safari Enduros. I will reiterate that these bikes do ok on the road if you cruise 45-60 mph as you get just above the speed where it 4 strokes from not having quite enough throttle. I didn't care as I was just taking my time and in no hurry at all. Great bike for this type of riding as it is great when you see some trail to explore and just have at it.

Got close to 100 miles on a tank, but I was riding like a wuss trying to save fuel.

Not recommending or suggesting that the KDX is a great dual sport or anything, but it works and can be fun if you give it a chance.

Actually, I think the KDX makes a decent DS ride as long as you keep trips on the shorter side and speeds 45 mph and under. I rode mine everywhere.

Yep, cruise at 45-50 on tha back roads and let people pass you up if they feel the need. If I had the time I could have rode all day it was that enjoyable. Living in northern Ohio there are not many good trail riding areas less than a couple of hours away, so I figure I need to make the best use of the bike that I can. I look at it like a lightweight dual sport that I can have fun on if not in any hurry. You gotta be laid back in order to enjoy a long road ride on this bike...In the woods though it is a different story.

I have my KDX dual sported for now and I agree. Anything over 45-50mph gets really buzzy on the road. But it's nice to ride to the local trails or hit the road connecting the trails without worrying about the police.
