is there any markings on the cylinder that tell you if its a 220 or 200.the story with my 01 kdx was that it was a 200 converted to the 220.right now im in the process of doing the top end as the head gasket spung a leak.waiting for manual to show up also.theres markings on the cylinder that say 0.198 an im thinking this is the 200 cylinder.
thanks

You would be correct. If it says 198 it is a 200. I can't tell you what a 220 says but my 200 has 198 cast into the jug.

the best thing to do is get the head off and see what the piston size is. it could be bored, so a standard piston wont work.

Very true, you never know what some one has done before you.

There is a big bore for the 200 jug to 220, right? It's possible that is what was done.
But yes, you have a 200 jug on there now.

198 means 198cc's, or 200 to round up. It's really a KDX198...LOL. Measure your bore while the head is off as it could be bored out. 66mm/2.6" is 200cc bore dia. 220 bore is 69mm/2.7"

ok thanks guys
i got the jug off last night.
bore measures out to 69mm
piston looks to be 68mm
these are close but might be a smig off.
measured with a metric ruler with a slide on it .
dont have a caliper to measure with.
so what does this mean.am i at my bore limit as far as if my jug gets fubar or can it be taken out again.
since its a overbore is this a good thing or a bad thing.
thanks
Kawie
another question
since its an overbore does it use a different head gasket an should the head been modified also.
thanks

On the right side of the engine, right by the reed block. 220's say "0.216L" and

good news is that i took it to a dealer i like to use an its a 200 jug with a 220 overbore.dealer says it looks like a eric gore kit cylinder.bad news is my local dealer is like 10 min. away an they suck a$$ an the dealer i like to use is almost a 2 hour round trip.dealers going to clean up my jug an hone an clean power valves reinstall them an time them.i wanted to do the power valves but im still waiting on my manual to show up

That's odd. I think EG's kit is a 225? Your measurments have to be off somewhere. 1mm clearance is WAYYYY too much! We're looking for like .07 - .1mm, tops. If it's a big bore, I assume it has a sleeve in it. Do you know? The 225 kit obviously wouldn't use a stock 220 piston. You probably need to contact Forward Motion and see if you can find out for sure that you have his kit, and figure out what piston you need.

i think he does both 220 or 225.

my bike had a wiseco piston in it.the dealer took the numbers from the top of the piston.he said its the same piston as the 220.the bore was measured by the dealer at 68. something something.my numbers were a close guess not a perfect measure as it was a metric ruler.
no sleeve just a bore an plate job.
the dealer matched the piston by the numbers on it.

Interesting. Looks like you are all set then?
