It was replated but like mentioned it was done by the FRP who I’m sure is one of the best in the world to work on a Kdx. Everything seems pretty clean. Their is a noticeable notchy feeling at the end of the actuator arms stroke when I go to manually return it counter clockwise.
Check that the bolt with the spring and ball bearing is installed, also check it is not ovalled badly, that can cause a notchy feeling, you should take off the actuator arm to test movement of this kips

That looked good to me and did appear to be binding while manually turning the gear. Thanks

I am really hoping it has something to do with the spring governor under the right side cover. I am finding myself very hesitant to pull the top end as I just paid a good 1700 dollars after shipping the engine to Jeff Fredette (who I still have the upmost respect for) to save me the hassle of doing anything myself and to be sure everything is working as good as possible. Now I have put a wiseco in it in the past so I have decent mechanical skill. It doesn’t seem like this is my fault if the kips is in fact the issue here as we speculate. I want to enjoy this thing again so bad!

Probably a good idea to contact Fredette and let him know the issue you are having and what you have observed from the checks you have done.

I did and he asked me if I took anything apart which I said no.

I know you're trying to get this sorted out and hope you're able to do that soon. When you get a chance can you post what Jeff said your break in procedure should be? Not trying to start an age old "the best way" debate....but it wouldn't be a bad thing to hear what Mr KDX does to break in an engine.

Here is what he said “ You just crack the bleed screw on the top of the head and that gets the air out.
Then just kick and go. Vary the rpm’s and load at first then open it up a little more and then go ride. Don’t do a high speed run for about an hour of ride time. “

Nice thank you. I was hoping he’d say something like that.

No problem it’s kinda refreshing how simple he put it.

Can anyone here send me a video turning the gear under the slotted cover? I can crack open all of the valves when turning it to the left then I start to feel spring tension. I want to know if others have spring tension as soon as they start to turn the gear. Thanks

The spring tension you feel is the ball & spring? I have a newly FRP ported & plated cylinder fully assembled on my shelf. I can check things, but I don't have a cell phone or camera.

Hey no the only spring tension I can feel is when I turn the gear about a tooth’s worth counter clockwise and onward. gear won’t return all the way unless I move it back all the way with a wrench as their is no spring force acting on it. When I went to check the bike after a quick ride the second pic is the position the valves were in. The first picture is where it should be (all the way closed) correct?

Turning the gear clockwise is opening the valves. They don't spring closed on their own. I have to manually turn the gear to operate the valves.
Your valves look closed.

You probably want to take the cover off the other side (right side) and remove the paw gear ( righty loose) you dont want to break the governor kips pin, that's probably the spring tension your feeling, maybe idk just a thought

Yes it is the spring tension I am feeling. I just hoped i could get the tension to begin quicker.

JZ05220r wrote: 11:02 pm Jul 08 2022 The bike is not running right and feels very low on power already. I think I found out why the 220 was running badly. The entire engine was sent to FRP and everything was perfect when I got it back. It started to run bad by the 2nd hour. Figured I needed to mess with the jetting. I did a compression test and only got 90 psi after 4 hours of ride time. How could this have happened so quickly? I followed the instructions given for the break in. I was running 32:1 but found out at 3 hours I should’ve been running 52:1. I ran out of fuel twice when the engine was fully warmed up. One of the times was actually because I forgot to turn the gas on. The other was simply because the petcock needed to be switched to reserve. Thanks
