I had a bad experience with that pin breaking off on my bike and floating around in the tranny until the bike stopped shifting gears. It ended up with metal shavings in the shift mechanism. I got really really lucky that it didn't do any major damage. Sorry for the hijack

Good job on figuring it out...as opposed to either missing the indications in the first place..or just hoping it would be fine.
I would think you could twist that shaft all sorts of backwards and around..and not see damage like that!
Heck...have a machine shop MAKE you one!
BTW...what does that second screw you mentioned (the one that fits in the case) accomplish? Anything? Certainly it doesn't prevent the damage you got!
Good luck!!

There is a pin inside (they call it the positioning pin) that comes out after the screw. If I had removed that in the beginning, I would have been able to pull the rod up a bit and possibly reset it into the grove without bending the CRAP out of it further. But thats a maybe. I don't know if the damage was caused by the initial twist or the subsequent ones trying to get it back into position. The bent piece is only $7 from Kawasaki. The shaft is fine, its that clip thats screwed

$7 to replace....hundreds for sure...maybe thousands of $$ of pain if you didn't!
Sounds like a darn good deal to me!!

The problem is I bought the rod, seals pin, screw & gaskets and did not order the part that was actually damaged. So all I needed was the gaskets & the $7 piece, instead of a $62 Shaft. OH WELL, I'm putting all new in since I got.
