So I tried to measure the compression but it's very hard to kick over. The kick starter ratchet is toast. It barely grabs. I got 30psi. After 3 or 4 half hearted kicks with the throttle closed. And I can't get the throttle to open. It's stuck. Well I figured that out pretty quick. Image

OK carb needs some serious work. I checked for spark. Had good spark. Seems like it's got decent enough compression.
After removing the carb and just letting it hang. I put some premix in a spray bottle and sprayed it into the Reed block.

Took a deep breath and started to kick.

So now I'm thinking. I still have some issues with my clutch. I think I may have forgotten a washer. The oil drain plug is still stripped. I was waiting for holiday break from scoop to go up to moto lab. Still haven't sent off the cylinder cause I've been waiting on that and I'm super busy with school and a few other projects. But I have a little time in the next few days..... what if I take the motor out of this bike. And put it in mine. And just ride it for a little bit. I'll take the jug out look at the piston and cylinder. But what's the worst that could happen. Bike blows up? I'll be in the same boat I'm in now. Only this time I'll have 2 broken bikes. It's getting cold here. I'll be lucky if I squeeze out 3 rides. But I'll be happy. The bike was free. It runs. Fresh oil fresh coolant. Maybe a few quick gaskets. Throw my new reeds in there.....

That's what I'm thinking. Let's see that the piston looks like.

Piston looks great. And so does the cylinder.

So it's done. All assembled. It runs. Haven't put it in gear and took it for a ride yet because I have some sympathy for my neighbors. It runs good. A little adjustment and it idles. I'm sure I'll get it tuned in. It will hold me over while I get the other motor squared away and figured out.

The parts bike has some good stuff I'll swap over. I'll take my time once winter really sets in and make one really good bike. I'm thinking now that I have a running bike maybe I'll just roll the dice with powerseal. I think honestly all the other engine needs is a new piston. Figure out the clutch issue and retap ping that drain plug.

Another question since I'm dying to ride.....how early is too early to ride your bike?

On a Sunday, around a neighborhood?10 to be safe, is my vote. If it was before 9, I'd probably have to throw an old plug at you or something. :)

I actually already took it out today for about 2 hours. It ran good. It does this thing where it will just randomly rev. Almost like fuel starvation. Randomly. Might just need a carb adjustment. Gonna keep tinkering with it tomorrow. Gonna drain the coolant and atf and put fresh stuff in.

Rode again yesterday. It's good still playing around with it. It kinda bogs at the bottom of a gear then once it hits powerband gets better. Still having issues with it leaning out randomly especially after leaning the bike over in Burms and tight corners. When I straiten the bike out after the corner and hit the gas it just over revs and kinda scares me because the thing takes off like a rocket. It evens out after a few seconds but that few seconds is scarry on a woop trail with another sharp turn coming up.

Might try to go pro it.

random revving is a carb issue usually, probably a good cleaning will help thoug it could be leaky crank seals. Make sure you have no air leaks anywhere. And by next spring you should have 2 bikes! For the pipe dents I have done the freezing water method with some limited success. Haven't tried the heat route.

Well the carb is brand new. So that shouldn't be an issue.

A few questions about my 94 kdx200

Glad you got it going.

For pipe repair, I hear Fusion One is really good and he is local. A lot of the NETRA guys use him.

Do you have good fuel flow getting to the carb? Sounds like your fuel level might be low for a moment causing a lean condition until flow catches up. When it's leaning out it can surge like that.

I'll check the fuel line and see how fast it comes out.

Also, what is your carb vent line like? I've heard of them choking up over whoops and causing momentary hesitation.

I assumed I didn't have to do anything with my carb other than the air screw adjustment since it's a brand new quad vent air striker from rb.
