No grindy sounds
Shoot after I got it home I ran it on the stand and everything sounded fine
You could only hear the gear drive sound in second gear and under a load
Any other gear it sounded normal
That's why I thought it could have been a bearing, to bad it took the shaft out with it...

Everything looks good other than the shaft
I'm no expert but the gears look fine
Those fugging snap rings are a fugging pain in the ass
Tearing into the tranny has always scared the crap outa me, but so far it's not that bad

So it was making a whirring noise huh? I wonder if a sasquatch can differentiate between whirring and grinding.
Those geary parts are spendy, hopefully you don't need too many.
holy crap that made me laugh.

Ya know, looking at that latest pic makes me think you could actually save that shaft. It looks like it's just bearing inner sleeve material glommed onto it. Maybe a lathe genius like Ron could turn it off for you?

That's what I'm hoping
Gonna visit a friend up North tomorrow that runs a machine shop
He can get all the bearings for cheap

Astroglide?
How'd you know
Actually I'm running Astroglide/KY - 50/50
fully synthetic?
Seriously, does it look like the oil was a contributing factor in any way to the failure?

Good luck!
The tranny is not as intimidating as it looks at a glance, is it? I took mine apart when I was doing main bearings / seals / tranny bearings just to inspect all the gears and doohickeys. Everything looked great so it all went back in.

I think it was more of a lack of oil that did it in
Last Summer I rode +30 miles of trails before I realized where the water from my boiling over rads was going
Water pump bearing and seal failure
When I got it all apart there was just an oily, greasy film covering everything
Bike got so hot that it melted the teflon in the clutch cable. Melted the plastic cover for the kips actuator

Got parts on the way!!
Needle bearing was a tough find
Carvr found a couple in Montana of all places
Got all the rest of the bearings and seals for $40 from my buddy that gets them at cost
All I had to do was ride the 200 miles up there and back

I'm dying to ride. Gonna start freaking out on people soon I'm afraid. Getting twitchy....
Dance competition month kinda sux, out of town every weekend watching dance teams compete. My 12 y/o daughter is competing in tap/jazz/ballet. It's fun for a time, but we're all exhausted by this point. Next weekend will be my first chance to get out. Hoping the weather will be decent!
